“We’re moving to South America!” How many times have we said this since deciding to make this life change? And now we have! After living more than 25 years in Washington DC we have left our beloved city and even more beloved friends and family to set off on an adventure.
Why?
There are several reasons: our cats died last year (at the age of 20); an “unprecedented political situation”; wanting to spend more time together; to slow down; to challenge ourselves; to find the next chapter of our lives; and more.
Why South America? To practice our Spanish; many options where it is not hot and humid; lower cost of living; and a place neither of us has been before.
Why this blog? To encourage us to travel mindfully; to share our adventure; and to inspire you, our readers, so that you too can change your lives.

Leigh and James – What a brave and wonderful thing to do! Having been through my own mid-career transition into teaching, I know how hard it is to step away from the rat race. How great that you can completely be freed and embark on a grand adventure. It’s one of those things that many of us don’t have the opportunity or guts to do and always say, “What if…?” How exciting! And thanks for including the rest of us in your travels. Cheers!

I think you are trying to throw us off our game by saying you are leaving “The Circus” when in fact you have actually joined MI6. Safe travels!

I think this is fantastic and am so excited for you guys! What is your plan? Tour around for a year or find a place to plant your feet for a few months before moving on (or both)? And are you renting your place in DC? I’ve often thought about this type of adventure but have a hard time getting my head around the logistics – so please do share as you work our all of the details! Enjoy!! ❤
